MY STORY

I am here to walk alongside you on this journey to recovery & well-being!

My name is Lauren Marie Aron and I have a passion for treating clients that have a disordered relationship with food and body. I use a range of methods when working with clients. My therapeutic skills are firstly grounded in sound social work principles and I combine these with a strong interest in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. My aim is to provide a supportive and non-judgemental space for clients to share their current difficulties and to find their inner strength. I also integrate Transactional Analysis in my work with clients, which looks at how we interact with others & EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for trauma or to help reprocess core beliefs that impact life negatively.


Life can get difficult, and sometimes a little help from a professional Therapist can make things better. I care about your well-being and provide you all the tools you need in order to seize the day and learn how to tackle even the most traumatic circumstances.

A BIT ABOUT THERAPY

Guiding You On the Path of Self-Healing

According to the American Psychological Association, Psychotherapists "help people of all ages live happier, healthier and more productive lives.” Through the use of various psychotherapy methods and collaborative treatment measures, my clients develop life-changing habits to help them cope with any of life’s various obstacles. My therapy sessions are designed to dissect personal issues and provide patients with effective tools to help them see the glass half full instead of half empty.

Wholehearted Living

Wholehearted living is about engaging in our lives from a place of worthiness. It means cultivating the courage, compassion, and connection to wake up in the morning and think, No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough. It's going to bed at night thinking, Yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable and sometimes afraid, but that doesn't change the truth that I am also brave and worthy of love and belonging.

I met Lauren at a treatment facility in South Africa for my eating disorder. I was extremely sick on arrival and I was there for 6 months; Lauren supported me through my whole stay as well as about a year and a half after I was discharged. I never thought that I would be in recovery and Lauren was the one who helped and guided me, she met me at my lowest of lows and has seen me grow as I was starting my life over again. Lauren aided me with my body dysmorphia, depression; anxiety and other personal matters. HOW LONG DOES EACH THERAPY SESSION TAKE?

The first session which is usually an assessment can take between 60-90 minutes. In this time I am able to assess what would be the most beneficial treatment plan for you! 1-1 therapy is usually 60 minutes on a weekly or bi-monthly basis and EMDR therapy is best done in 90 minutes.

RECOGNISING AN EATING DISORDER

If you tick the following criteria you may be struggling with disordered eating:

  • I exercise in excess

  • I feel guilty after eating

  • I am terrified of being overweight

  • I dress in layers to hide my weight

  • I spend too much money on food

  • I have become withdrawn and secretive

  • I am preoccupied with thoughts about food

  • I only eat safe foods, low in calories and fats

  • I don't feel I have control and eat too much or too little

  • I avoid family or friends as they interefere with my eating rules

  • I spend a lot of time thinking and planning my next binge

  • I have rituals such as cutting food into small pieces or weighing food.

IS THERAPY ENOUGH ON IT'S OWN?

During the assessment phase of treatment I will be able to recommend what I believe would be the most appropriate plan for you & YOUR recovery. Every client is different and some clients do need a more holistic, team approach- which may include having a psychiatrist and dietician as part of your plan. I can make the necessary referrals if this is needed so that you can have an outpatient team caring for each part of your recovery process.

WHAT IF I DO NOT HAVE A DIAGNOSED EATING DISORDER BUT I DO NOT HAVE THE MOST HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD?

That is perfectly fine and more common than you may think! Please do still get in touch to discuss your options!
